I fear I have been remiss in blogging on this site. I have been working on my other site elizabethannharlan.com.
Anyway, I thought I would share a journal entry regarding Cara from March 21, 2011. She would have been 7 years old at the time.
Here goes:
The other day I was vacuuming the dining room and there was Play-Doh all throughout the carpeting. A few years ago this would have gotten me terribly upset, but now it actually makes me happy.
For a long time when Cara was younger, she refused to touch Play-Doh. If you brought it near her, she would start screaming and crying. It was a sensory issue and a big one for her. The first time I got her to touch Play-Doh was when I made it into a ball. Cara loves balls and she was able to pick up a Play-Doh ball. But for a long time that was as far as she would go.
I don't know when exactly it happened, but at some point Cara went from repulsed by Play-Do (maybe even afraid of it) to playing with it. Right now she is mushing it and molding it and making ice cream out of it with a set I bought for her. She is loving it!
Play-Doh may be a "normal" childhood activity, but for Cara it was an obstacle - one that she has overcome! Remember where she was and seeing where she is now is amazing!
So, I will smile at the Play-Doh in my carpeting and relish the fact that my little girl has overcome this obstacle! Yeah Cara!
